Nick Schmalz and his wife Alex have been an integral part of fabric of Appleton and the Fox Valley for years. The purchase and expansion of Spranger's Orchard into Schmalz Acres and Schmalz Adventure Zone is an integral part of continuing to beautify the community and provide the community with new family-friendly adventures!
Kenneth (Kenny) R. Schmalz started Schmalz in 1949 as primarily a Land Surveying and Landscaping company. Kenny originally ran Schmalz part-time with his buddies from the mill. Kenny served in WWII and also enjoyed performing in the Ken Schmalz Orchestra.
Kenny owned and operated the company for 36 years until his son, Luke Robert Schmalz, and Luke's wife, Donna, took over the company in 1985.
Luke and Donna expanded the company to over 40 employees over the next 29 years. Their sons, Nick and Kenny Schmalz, were instrumental in the workforce and are still at the company today.
In 2014, Nicholas (Nick) Luke Schmalz purchased the company from his parents after college, but not before getting valuable outside work experience from another large landscape company in Salem, WI. Since the purchase in 2014, the company has expanded to over 150 employees and 5 different divisions: Schmalz Custom Landscaping and Garden Center, Schmalz Maintenance, LawnGuard, The Pool Team, Sprangers Orchard, and now, Schmalz Acres and Schmalz Acres Adventure Zone.
Nick, his wife Alex, and their children Gracie, Forest, and Buck are all a part of daily operations at all of the Schmalz Divisions.
The Schmalz family has an amazing 76 Years of family history here in the Fox Valley. We hope to share some of our ventures and adventures with you and your family!
